It will be about more than just hockey when the Prince George Cougars battle the Kamloops Blazers tomorrow night (Friday).
The evening is the Cougars Fight Cancer game where the team will wear special jerseys to go along with a Mega 50/50 jackpot.
Director of Business, Taylor Dakers told MyPGNow.com the evening is about celebrating those who have already conquered the disease as well as those who have passed away or are still fighting.
“The number of people affected by cancer is so high and the challenges of people dealing with cancer in Northern BC is such a big pool of people that have to travel so much to get treatment and be able to manage their sickness.”
Dakers added the WHL club also wants to recognize the efforts of local  Dr. Robert Olson and his team finding a treatment called  Stereotactic Ablative Radiotherapy that could replace chemotherapy.
“It is about highlighting the actual technologies that are being developed and produced in Prince George by Dr. Olson at BC Cancer. It is very cool the development and technology that is being hubbed out of Prince George.”
As for the Mega 50/50, the corporate and public appetite to send one lucky fan home with a large chunk of cash along with supporting a very worthy cause has resonated with the fan base.
“Over the last three years, we have averaged $155,000 jackpots so hopefully we are able to get up there again but overall, it is a night to bring out survivors and people currently fighting,” added Dakers.
Puck drop is at 7pm from CN Centre and Dakers is expecting another large crowd for the feature game.
