Pile burnings set for Vanderhoof and Fort St. James early next

The BC Wildfire Service will be conducting around 250 pile burns in Vanderhoof and Fort St. James.

They said the burning may start as early as October 7th, and continue until December 20th, with smoke and flames potentially visible from the Highway’s 16 and 27 corridors, and areas surrounding the sites.

While no burns are anticipated to impact roadways, there is potential for smoke to impact visibility.

Anyone travelling near the sites should exercise caution and be aware of crews working in the area.

Activities such as pile burning help reduce wildfire hazards by reducing accumulations of fuels on the landscape.

The exact timing of the burns will depend on site, weather, venting and snow conditions, and will only proceed if conditions are favourable.
